Feng Shui

Discover how the Chinese ancient art of feng shui (feng shway) can and will empower your health and fitness.

So what is feng shui?

It is an oriental science of arranging homes and workplaces to take advantage of positive energy flow. So creating an environment which stimulates health, vitality, wealth and happiness. Have you ever walked into an unfamiliar house and felt completely at home or gone to a famous land spot or place and found yourself feeling uneasy, but you've not been able to explain why? This is the energy that the Chinese call CH'I and they regard it as the most important aspect of feng shui. When ch'i flows well there is a good feng shui; when it stagnates it is bad feng shui.

So if your house is full of good ch'i then you can expect to be fit, healthy, happy, prosperous and full of energy. However, if your home is full of bad ch'i you are more than likely feeling low, depressed, unlucky, broke or somewhere in between. Of course, most homes and workplaces are a mixture of good and bad ch'i.

Our bodies are amazingly intricate, powerhouses of thought, imagination and feelings, constantly being affected by our environment. We are bombarded every day with electrical impulses, toxic elements, background radiation and noise. Finding balance, harmony and releasing stress is one of our growing needs in the western world. This is where good ch'i can help alleviate some of the stress of modern living. Giving you a head start in your campaign for good health and fitness.

Firstly, you need to look at the place where you spend most of your time. This is usually your bedroom. However, if you only sleep 4/5 hours a night it may be another room or even your workplace. This is the place that effects your energy the most.

Here are 5 Top Feng Shui Tips for The Bedroom (ensuring good fitness/health, relationships and quality sleep)
1. Sleep with a solid wall behind the bedhead, not a window. This will reinforce your sense of security. make sure that you have a view of the door as you lie in bed and don't put the bed inside a built in unit so that cupboards hang over you. It will limit potential and you may feel 'blocked' in life.
2. Keep the decor well maintained. Cracks in the ceiling can lead to deterioration in health and can affect your emotional well being. The same goes for stains and blemishes.
3. Do not sleep in the electro-magnetic fields of electrical equipment, either next to you in the form of a clock radio, electric blanket or stereo equipment. Plus, become aware of what is on the other side of the wall, maybe a fridge or freezer. Your head is the most delicate part of your body as the retina and pineal glands are most sensitive to this type of radiation.
4. We spend one third of our lives in bed and during the sleep process we discharge a lot of energy. Mattresses should be replaced every 6 or 7 years or sooner if you have any major changes in your life, particularly a new, important relationship.
5. Wake up looking at something inspirational, it will help lift your energy as soon as you open your eyes.

Five Top Tips for Keeping You Stress Free in The Office
1, Make sure your desk is facing the door, that way you are in control of the room and you can see who is coming in. If you back is to the entrance you will feel an unconscious uneasiness which drains your energy. If you can't change your desk position place a mirror on the wall or partition in front of you so that you can see anyone who enters behind you.
2. Clutter is the enemy of good Feng Shui. Keep your desk clear and let the energy flow freely around you. Keep files off the floor.
3. Living plants bring in vital energy and are particularly good to counter the negative effects of having so much machinery around.
4. The lighting must be good. Research shows that people are much more motivated and healthier if they sit near windows. Dark corners are lifeless areas and they mean you could find yourself using twice as much energy to do a job.
5. Symbology is important Feng Shui. Check and see what the negative and positive messages are being given out by the choice of posters and art around you. Are they dull, flat and limiting landscapes? Sunsets showing declining energy? Stark, aggressive images or are the enlivening and positive showing growth, caring and prosperity?

Energising Your Workout
Having looked at your home and work environment think about where you work out. Does it lift and invigorate you or is it dragging you down, making you feel tired? If you go jogging or running and you change your route, does one always seem easier than another? Notice how you feel when you are exercising. Does one place excite and exhilarate you, when another disempowers you, your intuition will tell you and it goes hand in hand with Feng Shui. You can always feel good ch'i over bad ch'i, remember you always have a choice in where and how you exercise, in or out. Take the road that empowers you, not the one that drains you.
